Maneuvers, Signals, and Right-of-Way Rules | DGT Exam

🔁 1. General rules: O.S.R.

  • 👁️ Observe: Make sure the maneuver is safe.
  • 📢 Signal: Use turn indicators or hand signals.
  • ⚙️ Execute: Carry out the maneuver with caution.

💡 Hand signals

  • Arm extended horizontally = move toward that side.
  • Arm bent upward = turn toward the opposite side.

🚦 2. Merging into traffic

Before merging onto the road:

  • Watch the speed and distance of other vehicles.
  • Yield when necessary.
  • Use turn indicators correctly.

🚌 Helping others to merge

  • Move laterally or reduce speed.
  • Come to a complete stop if necessary.

↔️ 3. Lateral movements

Apply O.S.R.: Observe, signal, and perform the maneuver without endangering other users.

🏁 4. Overtaking

✅ Steps

  • Check you can do it safely.
  • Signal your intention.
  • Leave at least 1.5 meters when outside built-up areas.

🚫 Overtaking is prohibited:

  • On blind bends, pedestrian or cyclist crossings, one-lane tunnels, or intersections without visibility.

🚲 Special cases

  • You may pass cyclists, pedestrians, or animals if there is no risk.

🔄 5. Changes of direction

  • Right turn: move toward the right edge.
  • Left turn: depends on the type of road (one-way, two-way, roundabouts, etc.).

🚫 Prohibitions

  • Lack of sufficient visibility, prohibitory signs, or road markings that prevent the turn.

↩️ 6. U-turns

  • 180° turn. From the right shoulder or a designated area.
  • Prohibited on one-way streets, where signs forbid it, or where turning is restricted.

🔙 7. Reversing

  • Allowed only when necessary.
  • No more than 15 meters and do not enter intersections.

🛑 8. Moped immobilizations

🔧 Emergencies

  • Move as far away from traffic as possible.
  • Switch on hazard and position lights.

🔥 In tunnels

  • Head to the nearest refuge.
  • Follow instructions and do not walk on the carriageway.

🅿️ 9. Stops and parking

🏙️ On urban roads

  • Leave 3 meters clear on one-way or two-way carriageways.

🛣️ On interurban roads

  • Off the passable shoulder.

🚫 Parking prohibited:

  • Double parking without a driver, on sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, bus or bike lanes, level crossings, tunnels, driveways, emergency areas, etc.

🚨 10. Right of way

⚖️ At intersections

  • Obey the signs. If there are none, the vehicle coming from the right has priority.

🚊 Rail vehicles

  • Have priority unless a sign states otherwise.

🚴‍♂️ Cyclists

  • On bike lanes, at crossings, or when riding in a group.

🚶‍♂️ Pedestrians

  • At pedestrian crossings, on shoulders without sidewalks, and when boarding or alighting from buses.

🚑 Priority vehicles

  • With signals activated, they have priority and may disregard some rules under their responsibility.

📉 Narrow sections

  • Priority according to signs or by vehicle type (greater difficulty maneuvering).
