The signs in the «Transverse white markings» group belong to the VIII. Road markings block of the Spanish DGT theory.
On this page you have the complete catalogue of these signs with their image, official code and meaning, exactly as they may appear in the driving-licence theory exam.
The nomenclature and meaning of the white transverse marks are as follows: a) Continuous transverse marking. A continuous line, placed across one or more lanes, is a stop line indicating that no vehicle or animal or its load must cross it in compliance with the obligation imposed by a horizontal or vertical mandatory stop sign, a sign prohibiting passing without stopping, a pedestrian crossing indicated by a road marking, a traffic light or a stop sign issued by a traffic officer or by the existence of a level crossing or drawbridge. If, due to exceptional circumstances, there is insufficient visibility from the place where the stop was made, the driver must stop again at a place from which he or she has visibility, without endangering any road user. b) Broken transverse marking. A broken line placed across one or more lanes is a stop line indicating that, except in abnormal circumstances that reduce visibility, no vehicle or animal or its load must cross it, when they have to give way, in compliance with the obligation imposed by a vertical or horizontal "Give Way" sign, by a green turning arrow on a traffic light, or when there is no priority sign due to the application of the rules governing this. c) Pedestrian crossing markings. A series of wide lines, arranged on the pavement of the road in bands parallel to the axis of the road and forming a set transversal to the road, indicates a pedestrian crossing, where drivers of vehicles or animals must let them pass. Lines of other colours alternating with the white lines may not be used. d) Cyclist crossing markings. A marking consisting of two parallel, broken transverse lines on the roadway indicates a crossing for cyclists, where they have priority.
💡 In the exam you will be shown the image of the sign and must recognise its meaning: look at the shape and colour to work out which group it belongs to.
