Approved seat belts and child restraint systems is one of the topics in the Safety block of the Spanish DGT theory. Elements and behaviours that protect life: seat belt, helmet, restraint systems and pedestrian behaviour. Understanding this section well helps you answer the theory-exam questions on this topic with confidence.
In simple terms, this point of the DGT theory establishes that in vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, the occupants referred to in the second paragraph of section 1 must use approved child restraint systems appropriately adapted to their height and weight. These occupants must sit in the rear seats.
Seat belt, helmet and restraint systems come with exceptions: learn both the general duty and the cases where it does not apply.
In vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, the occupants referred to in the second paragraph of section 1 must use approved child restraint systems appropriately adapted to their height and weight.
These occupants must sit in the rear seats. Exceptionally, they may sit in the front seat, provided they use approved child restraint systems appropriately adapted to their height and weight, in the following cases:
- When the vehicle does not have rear seats.
- When all the rear seats are already occupied by the minors referred to in the second paragraph of section 1.
- When it is not possible to install all child restraint systems in these seats.
If they occupy the front seats and the vehicle has a front airbag, they may only use rear-facing restraint systems if the airbag has been deactivated.
