Road Hazards: Traffic Signs and Special Situations

1️⃣ Curves

🔄 On bends, the driver must keep the vehicle under control to avoid skids or running off the road. Triangular signs such as P-13A and P-13B indicate right and left-hand curves. For a series of bends: P-14A and P-14B.

📏 Some signs include plates indicating the length or proximity of the hazardous section (S-800, S-810).

🛑 Dangerous curves with speed limits: P-13B and R-301 (30 km/h), P-13A and S-7 (60 km/h).

📉 Overtaking is prohibited on bends with limited visibility. White arrows on the roadway are used to guide the return to the right-hand lane.

2️⃣ Loose Gravel

🪨 Sign P-28 indicates sections where gravel may be projected, causing skids or breaking windows.

3️⃣ Animals on the Road

🐄 Signs P-23 (domestic animals) and P-24 (wild animals). They have priority on drovers’ roads and when crossing.

4️⃣ Movable Bridges and Quays

🌉 P-5 warns of movable bridges. P-27 indicates quays or riverbanks. 🚷 Evacuate if you become stuck!

5️⃣ Tunnels and Underpasses

🚇 In a tunnel with a fire: get out of the vehicle, switch off the engine and move away in the direction opposite the fire. Use emergency exits.

🚫 Overtaking, U-turns, parking or reversing inside the tunnel are prohibited.

6️⃣ Airports

✈️ Sign P-12 indicates areas with low-flying aircraft. Expect loud, sudden noise!

7️⃣ Road Narrowing

🛣️ P-17 (narrowing on both sides), P-17a (right), P-17b (left). R-5 prohibits passage through the narrow section; R-6 gives priority.

8️⃣ Gradients

⬇️ P-16a indicates a steep descent. ⬆️ P-16b a steep ascent. The percentage shows the slope.

9️⃣ Roadworks

🚧 Sign P-18 warns of roadworks. Signage will be yellow, with reflective lights at night. Priority to the vehicle that is more difficult to maneuver.

9.1 Priority order when reversing

  1. 🚜 Special vehicles or special transports
  2. 🚛 Vehicle combinations
  3. 🐴 Animal-drawn vehicles
  4. 🚙 Cars with trailer or motorhomes
  5. 🚌 Public transport vehicles
  6. 🚐 Trucks and vans
  7. 🚗 Passenger cars
  8. 🛺 Quadricycles and light special vehicles
  9. 🏍️ Motorcycles with sidecar
  10. 🛵 Bicycles, motorcycles and mopeds

🔟 Other Road Hazards

⚠️ Signs such as P-30 (drop at the edge of the roadway) or P-21 (school zone) indicate various hazards. If there is no specific symbol, P-50 with a descriptive plate is used.

1️⃣1️⃣ Obstacles on the Road

🚫 Leaving obstacles unmarked is prohibited. Obstacles include broken-down vehicles or items fallen onto the roadway.

1️⃣2️⃣ Priority Vehicles

🚨 Priority vehicles (police, fire, ambulances) have right of way when using lights/siren on urgent duty.

🚊 Rail vehicles (trams, trains) also have priority unless otherwise signed.
