1️⃣ Position and Clearance (Marker) Lights 🔦
Their function is to indicate the vehicle’s presence, width, and overall size, especially at night 🌙 or in low visibility 🌫️.
- 🔴 2 red rear position lights
- ⚪ 2 white front position lights
- 🟡 At least 2 amber side position lights (more if the truck is over 6 m long)
- 🔷 2 white front and 2 red rear clearance (marker) lights if the width is > 2.10 m (optional if between 1.80–2.10 m)
2️⃣ Mandatory Use of Lights 🕯️
Position lights (and clearance lights, if applicable) must be used:
- 🌃 Between dusk and dawn
- 🌫️ In adverse weather conditions
- 🚧 When stopped on the carriageway, shoulder, in tunnels or underpasses
- 🚘 When parked on:
- A non-trafficable shoulder on an interurban road
- A poorly lit urban road
- Poorly lit through roads (travesías)
📌 They switch on automatically with low beam, high beam, or fog lights.
3️⃣ Retroreflectors 🔁
Reflective devices that indicate the vehicle’s presence by returning light 💡.
- 🔴 2 red rear retroreflectors (non-triangular)
- 🟡 At least 2 amber side reflectors (mandatory if the truck is over 6 m long)
- ⚪ 2 optional white reflectors at the front
4️⃣ Low Beam (Dipped Beam) 🔆
White light. Illuminates the road without dazzling other users.
- Mandatory together with position lights:
- 🌃 Between sunset and sunrise
- 🏙️ On urban roads and in built-up areas (even if lighting is good)
- 🚧 In tunnels, underpasses, and signed sections
- 🌧️ In adverse weather
- ⛔ Always on in reversible or additional lanes!
5️⃣ High Beam (Main Beam) 🔦
White light, longer range and greater intensity.
- 🌌 Used outside built-up areas with poor lighting at > 40 km/h
- 🚫 Do not use:
- When it could dazzle others
- On urban roads
- When the vehicle is stopped or parked
- ✔️ May be combined with low beam at < 40 km/h
6️⃣ Fog Lights 🌫️
🚘 Front (optional)
- Color: white or selective yellow
- ✔️ Improves visibility in fog, snow, or heavy rain
- ✔️ Also useful on narrow roads (< 6.5 m)
🚨 Rear (mandatory)
- Color: intense red 🔴
- ⚠️ Can only be activated if another light is on (low beam, high beam, or front fog light)
- ✔️ Essential in very adverse conditions
📋 Special situations where low beam is required:
- 🟡 Reversible lanes
- 🟠 Additional lanes
- 🔄 Contraflow lanes
7️⃣ Other Vehicle Lighting Devices 🚨
- 🔁 Turn signals (direction indicators): pairs of amber lights (minimum 2)
- 🚨 Hazard warning lights (all indicators activated)
- 🛑 Brake lights: red
- 🔤 Rear license plate light
- 🔙 Reversing light: 1 or 2 white lights
