All motor vehicles must carry a set of tools and spare items essential for dealing with breakdowns while on the road.

- 🛞 Spare wheel or alternative system (tire repair kit)
- 🦺 Reflective vest: mandatory for drivers of passenger cars, buses, goods vehicles, adaptable mixed-use vehicles and, since 1 October 2026 (RD 518/2026), also motorcycles. It must be worn whenever you exit the vehicle and occupy the roadway or hard shoulder of an interurban road (breakdown, accident, etc.), both day and night. Professional riders of motorcycles, bicycles and e-scooters must wear it on all roads.
🔍 2. Periodic Technical Inspections (ITV)
🛠️ Good vehicle maintenance helps prevent accidents. The authorities require vehicles to undergo periodic inspections at ITV stations to ensure road safety.

📋 2.1 Inspection result
✅ Favorable
➡️ It is recorded on the ITV card and a visible sticker is issued for the vehicle. Validity starts from the day of the inspection.
⚠️ Unfavorable
🔧 Less than 2 months are granted to correct serious defects. The ITV card is retained and a receipt is issued.
📆 If the defects are not corrected within the period, a full inspection must be carried out again.
🚫 If there are very serious deficiencies, the vehicle may not be driven and must be transported by other means.
📉 2.2 Failure to comply with inspections
📂 Inspection data are recorded in the DGT’s Vehicle Register.
📅 Owners are responsible for meeting inspection deadlines. If they do not:
- 📄 The registration certificate is seized
- 🕙 A certificate is issued granting 10 days to pass the ITV
- 🔐 If the vehicle is not presented, it will be sealed/impounded
🚗 Any vehicle that has suffered significant damage affecting its safety must also undergo inspection.
