A U-turn consists of turning 180° to travel in the opposite direction on the same road. It is a maneuver that must be carried out safely and with caution. ⚠️
📍 1.1 Choose a suitable place
It must be done at a location where you do not obstruct or endanger other users.
👀 1.2 Check if it’s possible
- ✅ Verify that it can be done safely.
- ⛔ Prohibited if there is risk due to oncoming traffic or road conditions.
- 🚫 Prohibited on motorways, in tunnels, at pedestrian crossings, and on blind curves.
- 🔄 Signs R-304, R-303 or solid lines may also prohibit it.
💡 1.3 Signal the maneuver
Use the left turn signal or the extended arm held horizontally with the palm facing down.
🔄 1.4 Execute correctly
- 🛣️ In the center of the carriageway without crossing the center line.
- 🚗 At the right edge if it’s not possible to turn from the center.
- 🌀 In roundabouts, keep to the left of the center (around the central island).
🔙 2. Reversing Maneuver
Reversing is prohibited except in exceptional cases:
- 📌 When it’s not possible to move forward or change direction.
- 🔧 As a complementary part of another maneuver.
📏 Limits
- 🔢 Maximum 15 meters.
- 🚫 Do not enter intersections.
🕵️♂️ Precautions before starting
- 👁️ Observe traffic in both directions.
- 🪞 Use mirrors.
- ⚠️ Check for obstacles or nearby vehicles.
🚨 Signaling
Use:
- 💡 Reverse light if equipped.
- ✋ Left arm extended with the palm facing backward.
🐢 Execution
It must be done slowly, with caution, and covering the shortest distance possible.
