📜 Reference legal text — Article 156 (1)

Town councils, through their municipal by-laws, shall regulate the stopping and parking of vehicles on urban roads and, in particular:

a) They may establish time limits on parking, in order to favour the fair distribution of parking spaces and mobility, and to avoid traffic congestion.

b) They may regulate the removal or immobilisation of the vehicle, as a corrective measure for non-compliance, when it has no ticket authorising parking in time-limited zones, or exceeds three times the time paid for, until the driver is identified.

c) They may establish a specific regime for children, elderly persons and persons with reduced mobility or disabilities getting into and out of vehicles, in order to favour their accessibility and mobility, including vehicle access to traffic-restricted areas, or allowing more time than usual so that these manoeuvres can be completed safely.

d) The stopping or parking of roadside assistance vehicles shall be permitted for the time strictly necessary to remove broken-down or crashed vehicles, provided this does not create a new danger or obstruct traffic.

e) Vehicle parking may be subject to charges by town councils according to the vehicle's dimensions and environmental classification.
