📜 Reference legal text — Article 118 (2)

The rider and, where applicable, the occupants of bicycles and cycles in general shall be obliged to wear a properly fastened protective helmet, approved or certified in accordance with current legislation, on interurban roads; its use is compulsory for persons under sixteen years of age on all types of roads.

Riders who carry out their professional activity riding bicycles and other cycles are obliged to wear a properly fastened approved or certified protective helmet on urban roads and through-roads (travesías).

Cyclists riding between sunset and sunrise, or in weather or environmental conditions that significantly reduce visibility, must use at least one luminous or reflective element, in accordance with personal protective equipment regulations, visible from a minimum distance of 150 metres, when riding on an interurban road.
