Conditions that reduce visibility

Conditions that reduce visibility is one of the topics in the Driving maneuvers block of the Spanish DGT theory. Overtaking, changes of direction, stopping, parking, lighting and warnings. Understanding this section well helps you answer the theory-exam questions on this topic with confidence.

In simple terms, this point of the DGT theory establishes that in the cases referred to in the previous section, the front fog light or the short or long range light must be used. The front fog light can be used alone or simultaneously with the low-beam or even high-beam headlights.

Manoeuvres are tested with practical cases; remember the correct order: observe, signal and only then carry out the manoeuvre.

📜 Reference legal text — Article 106 (2)

In the cases referred to in the previous section, the front fog light or the short or long range light must be used.

The front fog light can be used alone or simultaneously with the low-beam or even high-beam headlights.

The front fog light may only be used in such cases or on narrow stretches of roads with many curves, meaning those that, having a carriageway of 6.50 metres wide or less, are marked with signs indicating a succession of close curves, regulated in article 149.

The rear fog light should only be switched on when the weather or environmental conditions are particularly unfavourable, such as thick fog, very heavy rain, heavy snow or dense clouds of dust or smoke.
