A detail many miss: the 50 % early-payment discount only reduces the money — the points are deducted regardless of when you pay.

Checking and recovering points 🔁

Checking is free: in the miDGT app, at the DGT e-office (with Cl@ve, certificate or DNIe) or by phoning 060. Ignore websites charging to "check your points".

To recover: a partial recovery course (authorized centres, ~€180–250, 10 hours) restores up to 4 points since the November 2024 reform, and a voluntary safe-and-efficient driving course can add +2 more, up to the cap of 15. At zero, the licence-recovery course runs about 20 hours, a disqualification period applies (6 months; 3 for professionals) and you must pass a theory test — and the new licence starts with just 8 points — in that case, drill the tests on TraficoTest and clear it first time.

Buying points? Illegal. Naming someone else as the driver so they absorb your points is documentary fraud, with fines in the thousands for both sides. There is no legal shortcut: only courses and clean time.

The points «black market»: why it's a trap 🚫

When someone offers to «sell points», nothing real is for sale: the proposal is to falsely name another person as the driver of your offence so the sanction and the deduction land on them. No points are created — a sanction file is manipulated. That turns an administrative problem into a criminal one: the DGT itself warns of documentary-fraud offences carrying potential prison terms.

The supposed «saving» rarely exists: you can end up paying the original fine, the promised cash, legal defence and fresh sanctions. Against that, an official course is slower — and infinitely cheaper.

Clear warning signs:

• You're offered points for money.
• You're asked for someone else's personal data to name them as the driver.
• You're assured «the DGT never checks».
• The proposed «driver» lives far away or wasn't even there.
• You're told not to consult professionals or the administration.
